8 Health Benefits of Tea

Camomile Tea

Tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world next to water, and can be found in almost 80% of all households. Tea is an aromatic beverage commonly prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured leaves.

Studies have found that some teas may help with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes; encourage weight loss; lower cholesterol; and bring about mental alertness. Tea also appears to have antimicrobial qualities.

Read on to find out why tea rocks your health.

  1. Tea can boost exercise endurance. Scientists have found that the catechins (antioxidants) in green tea extract, increases the body’s ability to burn fat as fuel, thus improving muscle endurance.
  2. Drinking tea could help reduce the risk of heart attack as it is known to protect against cardiovascular and degenerative diseases.
  3. The antioxidants in tea might help protect against a number of cancers, namely breast, colon, colorectal, skin, lung, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, ovarian, prostate and oral cancers. But don’t rely solely on tea to keep a healthy body as it is not a miracle cure for all.
  4. Tea is hydrating to the body (even despite the caffeine!).
  5. Tea could keep waist circumference in check. In one study, participants who regularly consumed hot tea had lower waist circumference and lower BMI than the non-consuming participants.
  6. Tea could be beneficial to people with Type 2 diabetes. Studies suggest that compounds in green tea could help diabetics better process sugars.
  7. Green tea has been found to improve bone mineral density and strength.
  8. Tea might be an effective agent in the prevention and treatment of neurological diseases, especially degenerative diseases (think Alzheimer’s). While many factors influence brain health, polyphenols in green tea may help maintain the parts of the brain that regulate learning and memory.

Health Benefits of Strawberries

5 Beauty Tips with Strawberries

Did you know that strawberries are actually not fruits as their seeds are on the outside. In fact strawberry plants are runners and are not grown by seeds. They are members of the rose family and have been grown in the wild for centuries.

Benefits of Strawberries

Strawberries contain antioxidants to combat the damaging effects of free radicals. They are packed with vitamins C and contain many important enzymes and flavonoids. They are a good source of manganese, pantothenic acid, vitamin B1 and iodine. Strawberries also protect the heart by increasing HDL cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. Many researchers have found that strawberries also help to regulate our blood sugar to decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes as well as to prevent breast, cervical and colon cancer.

Strawberries are not only delicious, but they are also proven beauty enhancers.

The Salicylic acid removes dead cells from the face while tightening the pores, hence they make excellent facemask. Blend some natural yogurt with a handful of strawberries and apply the mixture onto your face. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse well.

Strawberry juice has skin lightening properties also. They are effective in removing age spots and freckles. Squeeze some juice and apply over blemishes with a cotton ball. Rinse off after 10 minutes. You will notice the blemishes get lighter after a few tries.

Strawberries make an excellent foot scrub. Mash a handful of strawberries and mix them with a few drops of glycerine and grounded oats. Scrub your foot gently with this mixture to exfoliate dead cells and rough skin.

Last but not least, strawberries can be mixed with tea tree oil to treat fungal growth on the skin or even the scalp. In fact, they are effective to get rid of dandruff due to its antifungal properties.
